Preparation
To prepare for your Juvederm injections, follow a few simple steps to ensure best results. One week before treatment, you should stop taking:
- Anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen
- Blood-thinning medications
- Vitamin E, fish oil, garlic, ginkgo biloba and St. John’s wort
One to two days before treatment, you should:
- Stop drinking alcohol
- Take antiviral medication if you get cold sores and are getting injections near the mouth
- Take arnica montana supplements to reduce bleeding and inflammation
Procedure
At your appointment, your provider will map out the injection sites and disinfect those areas of your face. Next, they’ll inject the Juvederm just under your skin and massage the gel for even distribution. Depending on the number of injections you’re receiving, the session will take from 15–60 minutes.
Juvederm products contain lidocaine, an anesthetic that eliminates the need for a separate numbing cream. Therefore, the injections won’t hurt – you’ll only feel a slight pinch.
